Is there a goal, ambition, dream or desire you are working towards – such as losing weight, building a business, getting married, buying a house, starting a family, travelling – but no matter how hard you try to make it happen it still alludes you?
You’ve done what would be considered all the right things and taken all the logical steps. You’re 100% committed to your goal. You’ve invested hard work, energy and money in your project. You’ve sort expert advice and implemented it. Essentially, you’ve done everything you can to set yourself up for success and yet you aren’t gaining any traction. Ultimately you either give up or fail trying.
Not so long ago my life was going nowhere fast! I found myself hitting a sort of invisible threshold in my relationships, career, finances and health. For example, I was attracting the same type of romantic partners and employment situations despite having proactively taken steps to ensure I wouldn’t repeat the same patterns. In short, my life was reminiscent of Groundhog Day. That was until I discovered what was going on.
During my 20 year search to understand the reasons why not everyone fulfils their potential, I came to understand that the predominant thing holding us back from achieving our desires is our subconscious programming.
Finding Answers
My search led me to key resources that taught me more about how the human brain and mind work and gave me a deeper understanding of the notions of the conscious and subconscious minds, particularly the power of the subconscious mind.
I learnt that our childhood programming, based on the messages we receive and the behaviours passed down from our parents and caregivers, influences what we believe to be true about life. Not what is true or indeed possible.
This information helped me comprehend that my day-to-day reality was simply a reflection of the story I’d created about my life, thanks to my childhood programming. What I found most exciting was the concept that the story could be changed. I learnt that when we change our subconscious programming, the printout of our life changes.
This was a significant moment for me. A turning point in my life (and I hope your’s too).
As a result, I embarked on a journey to reprogram my subconscious beliefs. I sort out and discovered tools and techniques that allowed me to overcome the limitations of my childhood programming by adopting a four-pronged approach of consciously working with my thoughts, beliefs, actions and feelings. The methodologies I used to reprogram my subconscious mind can be summarised as follows:
I became mindful of my thoughts and what I said. I stopped complaining and re-living situations that made me feel unhappy and frustrated. I learned to focus on ‘mentally rehearsing’ my ideal day.
I studied the belief change process developed by psychotherapist Rob Williams called PSYCH-K. This allowed me to quickly and easily ‘seed’ my subconscious mind with new beliefs.
I began to put my needs first. I stopped doing things out of guilt. I no longer said yes to things I didn’t want to do just to please others. Instead, I prioritised engaging in activities that brought me joy and spent time with people who inspired and uplifted me.
I started to generate feelings of gratitude, appreciation and kindness on a daily basis using simple yet effective tools that were introduced to me by Gregg Braden. This allowed me get out of my head and connect with the wisdom of my heart.
The result
Embracing this methodology over a period of approximately three months was life-changing. I began to see beauty everywhere. Something within me changed at a very deep level and it had nothing to do with my external environment (as there had been no change in my physical surroundings or personal circumstances). But the inner sense of deep peace and contentment was long-lasting. I noticed too that people began treating me differently. They were kinder, more respectful and openly acknowledged their appreciation for me and my efforts. I also started to experience less resistance in attaining my goals. Doors that were previously closed, or didn’t exist at all, began to open up.
This profound inner shift allowed me to understand that reprogramming the subconscious mind is the key to overcoming fears, doubts, insecurities, feelings of guilt, negative self-talk, and the self-limiting behaviour that is holding us back from living a life that is a true and full expression of ourselves.
As a result, reprogramming my subconscious mind has become my highest priority. The methodologies outlined above are the basis for the way I live now.
The ongoing benefits
My sense of trust, certainty and self-confidence has developed and grown as I have consistently experienced improvements and breakthroughs in the areas of my life which I’d found the most challenging. My decisions, actions and the way I live my life are no longer influenced, limited or paralysed by my deepest fears, such as; accumulating further debt, having my heart broken again, failing to achieve my goals, disappointing others, not being good enough, or being seen as a failure. I now possess the tools and skills to alleviate any fears as they arise.
As a result, I no longer avoid circumstances that I would have once considered confrontational or made me feel uncomfortable. Nor do I need to make up excuses in order get out of a particular situation or keep various aspects of my life hidden. Instead, I am now easily able to set strong boundaries, be myself, share my opinion, and handle challenging situations with a quiet sense of calm, self-assuredness, openness and honesty. I’ve relinquished the need to prove myself, be defensive, control the outcome, take on other peoples responsibilities, or do whatever it takes to please others in order to keep the peace. It is very freeing.
I now find that I am naturally able to be, and remain, fully present in the moment. It’s no longer a mindful practise. Also, I am more observant and less engaged in the dynamics occurring around me. I am able to discern how I’m feeling moment to moment and act accordingly. On the odd occasion that something does trigger me or push my buttons, instead of reacting automatically and unconsciously, I now have the awareness and skills to catch myself and respond in new ways.
That is my wish for you too! I hope you gain as much, if not more, from this four-pronged approach as I have.
You don’t have to go it alone. I did and it took almost 14 years to understand the journey I was on and find the appropriate resources to navigate it. You don’t have to wait that long. I have the skills to help you change your life.
